Getting Your Stories On Linked In Today

1. ADD THE SHARE BUTTON

Marketers that add the InShare button usually see a fast and consistent increase in traffic as their stories become a larger part of the LinkedIn users conversation. Once a story is shared, it shows on the reader’s newsfeed and as a headline on LinkedIn Today. If  you don’t have the share button yet you can get it here: https://developer.linkedin.com/publishers.

2. SET UP OPEN GRAPH TAGS

The story engine pulls in headlines, summaries and images from the Open Graph tags in the metadata. The engine first looks to the “og:title” tag for the headline, and then moves to “og:description” for the summary and “og:image” for the photo. Ensuring your site has these tags  will ensure that your headlines, summaries and images always display properly: https://developer.linkedin.com/documents/setting-display-tags-shares

3. CHECK YOUR IMAGE SIZE & EMBED A LOGO

LinkedIn readers are more likely to share your stories if you have a clear standout image. Use a great image that will get your readers attention and then ensure you have your Open Graph tags setup properly. Then, check that its the proper size; images need a width of at least 120 pixels and a height of 80 pixels (bigger, the better).

For stories that you don’t have an image for, make sure your logo is used as the default image. You can drop it in the “og:image” tag (bigger, the better).

4. SHARPEN YOUR SUMMARIES

Use the og description tag to ensure your story appears with a concise summary of your article.

5. PITCH STORIES DIRECTLY TO THE EDITORS

Is your story perfect for one of the LinkedIn industries or the LinkedIn Today homepage? LinkedIn Today editors can promote it to the top of the page to ensure it gets more views.

Send an email letting the editors know why and make sure to include a link to the story.

or

Try tweeting your story to @LinkedInToday

Either way the LinkedIn editors will review your story and decide if its worth promotion and if it should go to an industry page or the LinkedIn Today home page.
